William Mylar is a singer, songwriter, and musician, currently living in Galt, CA. Mylar has played music nearly all of his life, beginning with piano at age 7. He acquired vocal training while working as a child actor in professional and community theatrical productions. Mylar taught himself guitar at age 18 and, along with his booming singing voice, the guitar became his primary instrument.
Well, the fourth annual 10K Festival is under our belts now, with a Saturday line up that equaled Thursdays and Fridays. Keller Williams show was so packed they had to turn people away, and Trey's show was awesome with no Phish music in sight. (Phil in fact did not stay around to jam indecently.) He played some new stuff, a couple off his solo album, closed out the show with a couple of covers, Won't Get Fooled Again by the Who and Get Back from the Beatles. I queried a lot of people over the three days I was there, and everyone said the same thing - it was just a great festival.
The night started out cold and rainy, which is almost as unlikely in Boulder as the Jerry Garcia Band has been. Ironically, I inquired to my wife about two weeks before the announcement of the show, while listening to the JGB recording from Kean College 1980 about when they will play in Boulder again. This year's regional 10,000 Lakes Festival Cosmic Break Contest has unearthed several diamonds in the rough. Among those uncovered this year is the Wisconsin blues-tinged, gypsy-laced, rock band Enchanted Ape. Though they didn't win a place in the contest, they were asked to play the festival based on their talent. Enchanted Ape is always in the groove and produces a well-rounded set with unexpected touches.
Pearl Jam announced today that Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) was selected as one of nine non-profit organizations to receive a combined total of $100,000 to launch its 2006 Carbon Portfolio Strategy. The band's initiative is the latest demonstration of its commitment to solve global warming and provide information to music fans worldwide about what they can do to reduce their carbon footprint.
